About the Floor Plan Furniture Layout Planner

This is a furniture layout planner you can use with your own floor plan — upload an estate agent's floor plan, a scanned house plan, or a rough photo of a sketch, calibrate it to the real scale of the room, and then drag your actual furniture and appliances into place. It's built for testing whether things will genuinely fit, not for producing a polished architectural drawing.

It's aimed at people moving house and wondering if the sofa will fit through the new living room, renters working out furniture placement before signing a tenancy, buyers sanity-checking a listing's floor plan before viewing, and anyone renovating or redecorating who wants to try a few layouts before committing.

Common uses

How to use it

  1. Start with the sample floor plan, or upload your own floor plan image and give it a floor tab (ground floor, first floor, etc.)
  2. Calibrate the scale by drawing a line across a wall or feature of known length and entering the real measurement
  3. Add furniture and appliances from the library, or create a custom item with your own real dimensions
  4. Drag, rotate, resize and duplicate items until the layout works, adding room labels or sticky notes as needed
  5. Save your project as a file any time, and print or export the finished layout when you're happy with it

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know my room's exact measurements to use this?

No. Upload any floor plan image, then draw a line along one wall or feature you do know the length of, and type in that real measurement. The tool works out the scale for every other measurement on the plan automatically.

Can I use the floor plan my estate agent gave me?

Yes. Upload the estate agent's image — a screenshot, photo or scan all work — then calibrate the scale yourself using any dimension shown on it or measured on-site.

Will the furniture sizes actually be accurate?

Only once you've set the scale for that floor. Every item's width and depth are entered in real units, and the tool warns you clearly on screen whenever a floor hasn't been calibrated yet.

Is my floor plan and furniture data kept private?

Yes. Everything runs in your browser and is stored on your own device. You can also save a project file at any time as your own backup.
